Minnesota head coach Brad Childress said Wednesday he is not concerned with the trash-talking Twitter tussle going on between Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe and New Orleans Saints safety Darren Sharper.
Shiancoe and Sharper have been sniping back and forth with tweets for the better part of two weeks, a feud that started when Sharper implied New Orleans would go after Brett Favre’s surgically repaired ankle in the season opener in September.
The latest exchange happened when some Vikings visited the Minnesota National Guard on Tuesday. Shiancoe posted a photo of a target used for shooting practice. The target had a picture of Osama Bin Laden saying, “I’m Darren Sharper,” with Sharper’s No. 42 on his chest.
“Before target practice a soldier suggested a custom target for me,” Shiancoe tweeted before posting the picture. “Guess he wanted to start my engine early for the SAINTS game!”

The Minnesota Vikings could have one high-profile backup running back.
LaDainian Tomlinson is going to visit the team on Thursday, a source confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. SI.com first reported the visit.
Tomlinson was released by the San Diego Chargers last week and has scheduled a number of visits with potential teams.
Tomlinson ranks eighth on the NFL’s all-time rushing list with 12,490 yards. His 138 career rushing touchdowns rank second, and his 153 total touchdowns rank third.

A 40-yard field goal in overtime by a little-known kicker could become as famous as jambalaya in these parts.
The New Orleans Saints, a team with no home and an uncertain future five years ago, are heading for their first Super Bowl. By battering Brett Favre and beating the Minnesota Vikings 31-28 Sunday, they set off celebrations on Bourbon Street that locals never could have imagined in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
“This is for everybody in this city,” said coach Sean Payton, the architect of the Saints’ turnaround. “This stadium used to have holes in it and used to be wet. It’s not wet anymore. This is for the city of New Orleans.”
And it came courtesy of Garrett Hartley and the Aints — who surely ain’t the Aints anymore.

“This is what I came back for.”
For the adrenaline rush. For the in-your-face touchdown. For another shot at the Super Bowl.
Brett Favre wanted all of it, and now he’s got it.
Four — count ‘em, four — touchdown passes from Minnesota’s 40-year-old quarterback sent the Vikings to the NFC Championship Game with a determined 34-3 rout of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
“Probably the most fatigued I got today was celebrating,” Favre said, smiling.
The Vikings (13-4) will take on the Saints next Sunday at New Orleans (14-3), with the winner going to the Super Bowl in Miami — the only reason Favre put retirement on hold for a second straight season.

The Minnesota Vikings signed Brad Childress to a contract extension that will keep the coach with the team through the 2013 season, a source told ESPN.com Thursday.
Financial terms weren’t immediately available but the deal is believed to be between $4 million and $5 million a year, the source said. In 2006, Childress signed a five-year, $10 million contract, which was scheduled to expire after the 2010 season.
“Brad has done a tremendous job leading this football team and we value the positive environment he has created for the Minnesota Vikings on and off the field,” Vikings owner Zygi Wilf said in a statement. “He has continued to positively impact this team and create a strong foundation for future success.”
