Nolan moving on after split with Broncos

Posted by GameSetMatch on 19th January 2010

The Denver Broncos and defensive coordinator Mike Nolan have agreed to part ways, and a source told ESPN.com’s John Clayton that Nolan is close to an agreement to take on the same role with the Miami Dolphins.

Before the split, Miami sent in a request for permission to interview Nolan, sources close to the situation told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The parting was friendly and gave Nolan a chance to move on and talk to the Dolphins, the source told Clayton.

The Dolphins fired defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni and have struggled to find a quick replacement. The Dolphins’ interest in Nolan apparently opened the door for the chance for Nolan to get to Miami.

Nolan becomes the third member of coach Josh McDaniels’ inaugural staff to depart following a disappointing 8-8 finish. Offensive line coach Rick Dennison left for Houston’s staff and longtime running backs coach Bobby Turner was reunited with Mike Shanahan in Washington. Both Dennison and Turner were holdovers from the Shanahan era.

Lane Kiffin: A bum? Or savy buisnessman?

Posted by boom on 14th January 2010

Southern Cal lost their head coach Pete Carroll, (in a much more respectable way) to the national football league’s Seattle Seahawks.

Lane Kiffin’s exodus from Tennessee’s program didn’t just agitate the Tennessee Volunteer nation but opened up the same can of worms we haven’t dealt with since the Nick Saban Miami Dolphin debacle.

Are the Lane Kiffin’s, Nick Saban’s, and other coaches who have bolted from their seemingly stable jobs to reach for something “better” in the wrong? Or have they earned the respect to do as they please? Let’s not forget about Brian Kelly, Rich Rodriguez, and the opposite side of the fence, Tony Dungy with the Buccaneers a few years back.

Williams runs for 119 yards, 3 TDs as Dolphins top Panthers

Posted by GameSetMatch on 20th November 2009

With Ronnie Brown lost for the season, the Miami Dolphins turned to their aging running back. Ricky Williams showed he’s still got it.

The 32-year-old Williams rushed for 119 yards and scored three touchdowns, and the Dolphins beat the Carolina Panthers 24-17 on Thursday night for their fourth win in six games to get into the AFC playoff picture.

A day after learning Brown is lost for the season to a foot injury, the Dolphins (5-5) continued their surge after an 0-3 start behind Williams. The 2002 NFL rushing champion had a receiving and rushing touchdown in the same game for the first time in his career that included a couple of lost seasons.

“Coach always talks about finishing,” Williams said. “Sometimes in this league, in a physical game, it’s difficult to finish. I think in the past we’ve prided ourselves on finishing games and we did a good job tonight.”
